Move and/or Copy a property from one portfolio to another

Matthew Baker 4 years ago updated by Thomas Macdonald 2 years ago 9

Background

When I first started using Landlord Vision I didn’t bother watching tutorials or reading faqs. I knew what I wanted to do. I wanted something to manage my properties.

You can’t manage properties without property information so I typed in lots of my properties and uploaded images etc..

Then I spotted the Portfolio tab. So I noticed all the properties I had added were added under My Portfolio. I didn’t want that so I created new ones. One for my name only, One for my name and my brother and one for my property Ltd company. Now I just wanted to move the properties I added in to the correct portfolios. Well it seems you cant! You have to delete them all and start again in the right portfolio.

What would happen later on down the line if say for instance I had a portfolio with my brother with 50/50 shares. I also had my own portfolio. Say my brother sells me his share. I have to go in and delete all the property information from his portfolio and add it into my own portfolio. That just does not make sense. Why type the same information in again?

Request

So my request is can you add a ‘move’ and/or copy property feature. If for some reason there are related accounts to a property you can point that out and prevent a move but at least allow a copy.

I agree Matthew, I have also asked for the same facility!

Hi Natalie. What is your feature request title so I can vote it up. Apparently only the tickets with a reasonable amount of votes get looked at.

This is exactly what I need. I know for sure that we plan to change ownership of properties from our children to my husband and I and from us into a company. While I understand that the historical income and expenses won't be relevant to the new ownership, I don't want to have to re-input all the property and tenancy details.

I agree 100% this is very common.

This is exactly what i came to post about, accidentally created a property in the wring portfolio. i now have a live tenancy but want to move it to a different portfolio without loosing all the associated documents.

I need this too.  I only have a few properties but the reason I signed on for this software was to help me move properties from 2 small portfolios into an SPV - I need to prototype the property ownership changes and then change according to financing/tax changes.

It's a showstopper if I can't move properties between portfolios. I can't risk cut & paste errors when deleting and recreating properties and shouldn't need to export/import .csv files to the same system.  Surely you can have a portfolio table with a field for  property codes - then you just move the property code in the portfolio table and have a couple of validations without touching any of the property data.

I have properties listed in my own name, I'm setting up a company for purchases that are currently in progress and future purchases.  I'm pretty sure that my privately held houses will move to the company at some point. I'm already dreading having to do anything other my 'move' this between portfolios. Surely this is a relatively simple thing to achieve, the portfolio name is a field that can be changed like anything else in a database. I know it needs to be tested so that it doesn't break other functionality and everything migrates to the other portfolio, but shouldn't be too hard??  Please consider this one s/w devs, it would be very welcomed.

Luckily I caught this early, so I only have to delete one property and add it to another portfolio, but I am surprised this feature isn't available.

I came across this post Googling how to move a property between portfolios
